Tubing
Lazy-river tube floats and shuttle-served tubing runs on warm-water rivers.
River tubing is the least technical way to spend a day on moving water, which is exactly its appeal. The commercial model is straightforward: the outfitter rents the tube, runs the shuttle, and manages a put-in and take-out on a stretch of river with a predictable current and no significant rapids. Texas built the largest tubing economy in the country on the Guadalupe and Comal rivers, and the activity is a summer fixture on the Delaware in Pennsylvania, the Chattahoochee in Georgia, the Niobrara in Nebraska, and dozens of spring-fed rivers across the Southeast. Float times generally run one to four hours depending on the reach and the flow. Water level is the variable that decides whether a given day happens at all, since an outfitter will suspend trips when flow runs too high to be safe or too low to move. Most operators set an age or swimming requirement and many now restrict glass and single-use containers on the water.
